Wintel Specialist Bedfordshire
Windows 2008, Active Directory, CVSS, Patching

A Wintel Vulnerability Specialist is required to join a leading financial organisation based in Bedfordshire. As the Wintel Specialist you will be responsible for owning, managing, coordinating and implementing remediation of security vulnerabilities within the Wintel Estate.

This is a hands on role which sits within the Wintel operations team and bridges the gap between Security and Wintel. This spans physical, virtual, server and client environments for corporate and production covering all Wintel systems across all offices and data centres. This is around 1000 servers and 2000 clients.

The role
-Attendance of weekly task force meetings with platform stakeholders and the security department to manage ongoing vulnerability remediation.
-Identify vulnerabilities which would not be closed by regular platform patching.
-Plan and implement changes to remediate (e.g. where configuration change or application/software upgrades are required). This will entail Working collaboratively with Wintel patching, automation and desktop imaging engineers, to fill the gap between regular Microsoft patching and vulnerability remediation.
-Organise additional resources within the team to assist if necessary to implement changes required within agreed timelines.
-Produce, maintain and improve upon regular vulnerability status reporting within the task force.
-Work closely with internal customers when planning change to ensure applied fixes cause minimal impact.
-Manage exceptions and dependencies, keeping the vulnerability task force informed, in order to raise any required dispensations.
-Feedback fixes into system build templates and sequences to prevent re-introduction of vulnerabilities on new builds.
-Definition and implementation of security and configuration baselines and compliance reporting within SCCM.

-Comprehensive working knowledge of the following Wintel technologies: Microsoft Operating Systems including Windows 2008 Server and Windows 7.
-Administration experience of Windows 2008 server including Active Directory and Group Policy.
-SCCM 2012 Endpoint Configuration, Patching, Software Deployment and Reporting.
-Understanding of CVSS scoring and experience of managing and prioritising vulnerabilities accordingly.
-Good understanding of industry best practice across the Corporate and Wintel technology stack.
-PowerShell Scripting Experience.
-Substantial experience working within a strongly ITIL focussed change environment.
-Flexibility to work an alternating shift pattern likely to be 2 weeks of normal shift (e.g. 0900 and 1700) followed by 2 weeks of late shift (e.g. 1500 - 2300), subject to change, to implement changes at appropriate times to the business. Occasional overtime may be required if changes run over.
