I'm currently recruiting for a financial organisation based in Hertfordshire that's recruiting for a Technical Author to join them on a permanent basis. . The core focus of this role is to provide high quality technical and non-technical documentation for external and internal audiences, using the DITA standard for content production. Working in the publications team, responsible for the production and maintenance of content that supports a wide range of external users.
Key accountabilities and duties
·Produce technical and non-technical documentation and other material for end users. The material must project the highest possible standards as it is the key corporate visibility for products and services.
·Gather and review documentation requirements, architect content structure and populate content, based on high level information and engagement with project teams.
·Perform user and task analysis to understand user needs and how best to address these with content and training.
·Participate in the review of artefacts from other teams, providing feedback as required.
·Manage the review of content, including addressing any comments.
·Ensure best practice versioning of content is maintained.
·Identify and exercise content reuse opportunities to improve user experience and decrease content maintenance requirements.
·Where required, contribute to UI development, for example, providing error messages and help content.
·Respond to customer and other queries.
·Where required, support other areas in the delivery stream.
·Through the analysis of queries/defects from customers, identify where potential changes to documentation/training could be made to better support the end user
·Ensure successful engagement with relevant internal teams to support the production of content.
·Communicate effectively with people from technical and nontechnical backgrounds, including discussing and presenting service detail at a user, business and technical level.
·Support other members of the team.
·Work on multiple projects simultaneously.
·Effectively plan and organise workload to meet deadlines.
·Ensure all content is produced in line with the Technical Publications Style Guide
·Experience working as a technical author, ideally within a software development or service operations environment
·Experience of gathering and understanding user information needs and addressing these through content and training.
·Demonstrable understanding of topic-based authoring
·Demonstrable understanding and experience of content reuse and maintaining best practice for content reuse.
·In depth knowledge of a DITA authoring tool, such as structured Adobe FrameMaker.
·Knowledge of MS Office and specifically MS Word, Visio, Excel and PowerPoint.
·Knowledge of screen capture and image editing software.
·Knowledge of online help creation tools.
