Senior Front End Developer
What you will be doing
1. Maintain and enhance functionalities relating to the UK websites
*Work together with the Software Development Manager and Technical leads to contribute to development best practices, code reviews, TDD, CI and documentation.
*Work closely with the Product Owners on definition of acceptance criteria.
*Actively participate in planning analysis sessions providing accurate estimates for each task.
*Take a proactive role in identifying and resolving technical and functional errors across all sites
*Mentor and Share technical expertise with the team.
*Provide written/verbal project progress reports or updates as requested by line manager.
*Maintain a broad awareness of developments in ecommerce, both within and outside the travel industry.
*Evaluate different technical options for developments, which will have a significant contribution to business success, balancing risk with opportunity.
*Analyse websites proactively to identify problems and trends and propose technical solutions and recommend changes to optimise system performance and usability.
*Ensure documentation is in place to support future maintenance of system and to support operational requirements.
*Ensure excellent level of communication to/from the team and key relationships.
*Promote self-managing and proactive attitude within the team.
*Availability to do out of hour support work if necessary.
2. Planning and management
*Support Front End Technical Lead in estimating work and ensure that work is completed on time.
*Take business requirements for new or changing functionality on the site and help produce specifications.
*Troubleshoot and provide appropriate solutions if and when problems occur.
*Delivery of agreed tasks to agreed time scales.
*Act as Front End Technical Lead's delegate as necessary.
*Work independently and lead smaller developments.
*Coach and support other Front End Developers.
3. Development & Design Support
*Work on day-to-day updates to the sites and larger scale developments.
*Translate prototypes, sketches, Photoshop designs into accessible and standards compliant XHTML/CSS.
*Develop to web standards and best practices to produce highly usable, standards compliant and progressively enhanced XHTML/CSS templates and pages.
*Brief and work closely with the Back End Development team on front-end and back-end work to support the UI.
*Maintain a highly organised level of working standard - adhering to our working practices, code standards and helping us to develop them to become more efficient and effective.
*Working closely with the Analytics team to ensure all relevant tracking requirements are met
*Supporting the team throughout the development life cycle
*Able to extend and apply existing designs to new functionality with guidance from designers.
