Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 / year DOE


- My client is a very highly-regarded major global centre of genetic R&D
- They lead many major global partnerships to provide the foundations for
further research and healthcare innovations
- As an organisation they pride themselves on the expertise and knowledge of their
employees along with their ethos of sharing new discoveries and ideas with
researchers worldwide


- The role will involve working strategically with the Head of Programme and the
programme's faculty teams to ensure the appropriate scientific support frameworks
exist to expedite delivery of the science on a global basis

The ideal candidate will be..

- A scientific expert and manager with a successful track record of scientific
operational and strategic management related to areas of genomics and
- A critical thinker who is adept at solving complex problems, comfortable in
setting strategic operational goals, handling budgets, providing progress reports
and identify operational risks
- Someone with an understanding of academic research groups, and how best to
support them through administrative, IT and technology platform services
- Experienced in coordinating, managing and mentoring administrative, scientific
and computational staff, in research and/or scientific support contexts in
academia or industry
- Able to build, influence and handle strategic and collaborative relationships
with internal and external partners to increase the profile of the programme and
its projects, including large international ventures

Key duties & responsibilities:

- Accountable for the operational management of the Cellular Genetics Programme
- Setting strategic goals, providing progress reports and identify operational
- Responsible for commercial discussions with procurement and legal within Sanger
and with other consortium
- Lead and inspire change and improvements within delegated area of
- Contribute to delivering the overall programme of research
- Involvement in the presentation of findings to promote the Cellular Genetics

Essential skills:

- Proven and significant experience in a management role with line management
responsibility of administrative as well as scientific staff
- PhD-educated with an understanding of genomics and bioinformatics
- Experience in successfully resolving a range of people related issues
effectively, using formal and informal mechanisms
- Highly developed communication skills with experience of dealing with people at
all levels successfully
- Excellent operational strategist, with experience of setting up an operational
- Good network and relationship building skills
- Able to work independently within own managerial direction
- Proven organisational skills with the ability to plan and schedule effectively
