Working as a Digital Development Manager you will be working in a fast paced environment for a company with an exciting product. You will be responsible for the software development function for the 14 websites. Managing a team of front-end and back-end developers, supporting them in building industry leading, search engine optimised, robust and innovative software solutions. You will be commercially focused and able to understand how technology can deliver against the overall business strategy. Using Agile methodologies you will be creating and maintaining a professional culture within the team, where individuals take ownership and are fastidious and proud of delivering excellence and quality. Digital by default is the vision for all brands across the portfolio. As a result, the Software Development Manager will be involved in building and executing the strategy for the function to meet the company's goals and objectives, and to improve the quality of the service it delivers.
Your core responsibilities will include: *Create and deliver the function's vision and strategy, delegating technical responsibilities of this to the technical leads. Ensuring it is aligned with the business and IT strategies and all team members are aware of and focused on same goals. *Line management responsibilities which include coaching, recruitment, appraisals, 121 meetings, identifying training needs, motivating and performance managing the team. *Responsible for capacity planning to cover pipeline of work, consisting of projects (working closely with Programme manager) and services we provide, whilst enabling us to improve processes and reduce risks such as single point of failure or unforeseen workload. *Supplier relationship management with our resource partners to ensure flexible resourcing model strategy. Also responsible for managerial tasks such as POs, Invoices, feedback, resource planning, machines, etc. *Strong business relationship management to ensure expectations are met. This includes frequent communication with key stake holders and escalations dealt with in a timely manner. *Working closely with PMO, Selling Systems and IT to have a holistic view of the pipelines of work, including planning releases and usage of environments, working out dependencies and risks to the delivery of the planned work. *Sharing the role of release manager amongst management team and always looking for ways to streamline the process and reduce risks. *Coordinate team work across different streams, ensuring there is one member of the team on each stream which is going to be the escalation point and take ownership and responsibility for the delivery, this will be the technical lead in key projects but can also be other members of the team if they are ready to take on the responsibility. *A strong understanding of agile and waterfall delivery methodologies, and an understanding of how best to utilise these approaches when planning deliveries with the PMO team, and then translating into reality with the technical leads during project execution.
You will need *Substantial experience of management/leadership experience in a software development organization required *A record of successful delivery of software applications as an individual, team leader and/or development manager *Ability to successfully work under tight project deadlines and communicate with a range of stakeholders, both internally and externally *Strong leadership, project management skills, time management, and problem solving skills *Strong experience of development and support of an E-Commerce web platform *Experience with Scrum methodology and Agile practices *Willingness to dive into software environments and technical issues *Experience with automation and DevOps tools such as Puppet and Jenkins *Experience with managing the development of cloud based applications *Experience in Java programming and J2EEapplication server software development *Relevant experience Drupal platforms *Experience with Apache & MySQL *Experience in the use of a CMS i.e. Drupal *Experience of ITIL (desirable) *Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (desirable) Job ref 67254/JI
