DevOps Software Engineer, £560 per day, central London

Volt is recruiting for a DevOps Software Engineer working for a leading academic social networking site, part of a global publishing firm based in The City, initially on a 3-month basis.

Our client is in the midst of a transformation. Technology is simultaneously at the forefront and the driving force. Their innovative platforms and smart content solutions operate at the cutting edge of big data, semantic web and cloud technology, enabling faster and more effective critical decision-making daily across the globe.

As the DevOps Software Engineer you will join our client's Infrastructure team, working alongside the development teams. The architecture is strongly distributed, with more than 100 microservices operating in production and a continuous delivery pipeline that perform tens of deployments per day.

You will have an interest and enthusiasm for creating highly-scalable and manageable cloud based infrastructure.

Your role:

Automating provisioning, deployment, configuration management and monitoring.
Supporting RESTful API services running on a microservice architecture.
Building the next generation containerised architecture using AWS ECS.
Building monitoring and alerting infrastructure.
Following an agile process with Scrum/Kanban/XP.
Sharing your knowledge and contributing to team consensus on technical practices.

Your skills, experience and attributes:

Passion for building state of the art infrastructure.
A positive, constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and execution.
Broad knowledge of AWS - in depth knowledge of VPC, EC2, ECS, RDS, R53, S3, IAM.
Docker and containerisation.
In-depth understanding of infrastructure as code tooling, preferably Puppet & Terraform.
Excellent Linux system administration experience.
Jenkins expertise, and experience with Job DSL & Jenkinsfiles.
Scripting skills in bash and/or Python.
Experience with monitoring solutions - Cloudwatch, Graphite, ELK.
