- My client is an international leader in the laboratory services, measurement
standards, reference materials and proficiency testing marketplaces
- With over 1200 highly-skilled staff they are a leading developer of new methods
and standards in biotechnology and analytical measurement
- I have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join them
on a permanent basis to actively seek new business and manage / develop existing


- Build market position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating and closing
business relationships of your assigned key & growth accounts
- To manage both key & growth accounts strategically, including new business &
protecting existing business


- Meet sales and gross margin targets for company product and service range
- Actively seek new business opportunities for all business sectors
- Strategically manage existing customers, to help protect & develop existing
- Produce a business plan and visit management activity in line with company
strategic targets
- Gather market intelligence and feed it back to the senior management
- Identifies or proposes potential business deals by contacting potential
partners; discovering and exploring opportunities
- Develop negotiating strategies & positions by studying identified customer base;
examining risk potentials estimating customer needs and goals
- Increase brand awareness by organising and attending exhibitions, seminars and
other events and by conducting direct marketing initiatives alongside other
promotional activities as required
- Regularly maintain the Customer Relationship Management database
- Produce an informative monthly report on activities & business plan including
sales pipeline


- A degree in a Chemistry related discipline
- Scientific background is essential, along with knowledge of current techniques
within analytical chemistry
- Excellent territory management skills, including prospecting, sales planning &
market knowledge
- Good understanding of Strategic Selling & Account Management including but not
limited to; closing skills, motivation for sales, presentation skills, selling
customer needs, professional skills, meeting sales targets, high energy levels.
- Previous successful field sales experience in a relevant market within the UK is
- Understanding of the use of reference/analytical standards within a laboratory
and quality control environment
- Experience in dealing with central procurement agencies
- Good Commercial awareness & excellent interpersonal skills
- Experienced in the use of
- Excellent organisational skills
